Tim Murphy grew up in rural Carthage, Illinois; being one of nine siblings in a large Catholic farm family. In 1979, Tim graduated from Carthage High School, and in 1983, he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from University of Illinois. Tim spent thirty years in Springfield, Illinois working in as an environmental specialist with the Illinois EPA. While in Springfield, Tim served eight years as an Engineering Aid with the Seabees in the United States Navy Reserves. Tim’s oldest son Mitch is an paramedic in Springfield and his youngest son Cameron is attending Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. In 2016, Tim moved back to the family farm in Carthage. At present: Tim serves as an associate director for the Hancock County Soil and Water Conservation District; substitute teaches; and works as a real estate agent for Peevler Real Estate in Keokuk, Iowa.
